Champagne René Geoffroy’s roots are in the Cumières, dating back to the 17th century. Now located in the heart of the village of Aÿ, Jean-Baptiste Geoffroy continues the family tradition. The vineyards total 14ha mainly in Cumières, where the main priority “is to preserve and enhance the life of the soil.” Intervention is minimal with avoiding the use of chemicals, employing cover crops, and encouraging predatory insects to combat vine pests. Jean-Baptiste is armed with traditional Coquard presses, enamelled vats and oak barrels in the new gravity-fed winery. Malo is avoided and the blends are determined by taste alone. Jean-Baptiste seeks to maintain the spirit of respect, patience, detail, and purity through his wines.
