1902 Centenary Carignan

100% Carignan from 100+ year vines from the cooler vineyard in Poboleda at the foot of the Montsant Mountains. Vines planted in 1902 on slate slopes called, ‘costers’. Hand-harvested and only the best berries selected, fermented in stainless steel and aged in new French oak barrels for 16 months. Very limited production, less than 1000 bottles made.

Tasting Note: 2014 - Aromas of black plum, and blackberry, with toasty oak, violet, anise, and mineral on the nose. Rich and powerful on the palate with good freshness, great concentration of dark fruit, some grip to the tannin but not astringent, harmonious, long lengthy finish with hints of mineral & fruit.

2015 - Aromas of blackberry, and blueberry hints of herb, violet, mocha, and spices on the nose. Concentrated, powerful, deep and full-bodied on the palate, juicy ripe dark berry fruit, good structure, balanced acidity, fine tannin, and a long warm finish with notes of baking spices. Very special.

2017 - Aromas of plum, black cherry, and blackberry with hints of wild herb, violet, cinnamon, nutmeg, and slate on the nose. Full and rich on the palate with great black/red fruit concentration layered with hints of oak spice, a little savoury, ripe tannin, very elegant, a very long, complex finish. Showing youthful now with also ageing potential.

2018 - Aromas of cherry, blackberry, and plum with hints of violets, leather, cocoa, clove, herb, and licorice on the nose. Rich, powerful and savoury on the palate, a juicy black fruit core layered with spice and mineral notes, fresh acidity, youthful tannins with a velvety texture, and a long fruity finish. Currently showing youthful with cellaring potential.
