Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru

Fruit from a small 1.14ha parcel of vines on the top part of the Mazoyères section of Charmes Chambertin. Vines average 50+ years, vinified with some whole clusters in 3 sections (very old, old, young vines). Aged in barrel with up to 30% new oak.

2017 - Warm spring with frost mostly avoided. Hot/warm weather for spring and summer leading to an early harvest. Picking dates are essential due to the risk of rain. A plentiful harvest.

Tasting Note: 2017 - A floral bouquet of red and black fruit with iris and violets. Mid-weight with fine tannins, bright acidity, and subtle minerality. A wine still in need of some time to unfold its true potential.

2019 - Aromas of ripe blackberry, cherry, blueberry with hints of violet petals, oak spice, earth on the nose. Pure, rich, and supple on the palate with a lovely red/black fruit concentration & floral notes, fresh acidity, fine tannin with some grip, a long layered finish. Good structure and power, will age nicely.

2020 - Slight reduction noted that blows off to reveal heady black cherry aromas on the nose. Medium bodied with excellent intensity, rich fruited and gamy powerful flavours on the palate, fine taut acidity, fine tannin, rustic and robust, some mineral notes on the lengthy finish.
