Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 1er Cru
2017 - Warm spring with frost mostly avoided. Hot/warm weather for spring and summer leading to an early harvest. Picking dates are essential due to the risk of rain. A plentiful harvest. Fruit from the excellent Clos des Epeneaux monopole where vines range from 35-90 years. The clos is further divided into 4 parcels according to soil types (mix of brown clay & hard limestone)/vine age and vinified separately. Vinified with 10% whole cluster, aged 18-24 months in oak, 30% new.
Fruit from the excellent 5+ ha Clos des Epeneaux monopole (roughly 80% within Petits Epenots and the remainder in Grands Epenots), vines range from 18-75+ years. The clos is further divided into 4 micro parcels according to soil types (mix of brown clay & hard limestone), vine age, and vinified separately. Vinified with 10% whole cluster, aged 18-24 months in oak, 30% new.
*in 2014 due to hail damage, each micro parcel within the clos has been vinified together.
Tasting Note: 2017 - Aromas of brambly red fruit with crushed minerals and dried rose. Medium-bodied, showing hints of citrus on the palate, great mid-palate concentration, velvety texture, fine tannins, and great depth on the long finish.
