Côtes Du Rhône Ciäulà
2018 - 55% Grenache, 40% Syrah, 5% Counoise from 2 parcels totalling 2ha in Sabran. Vines planted in the 1970s & ’80s. De-stemmed fruit and aging in stainless steel for 5-6 months, bottled unfined, unfiltered. Ciaüla means the bird crow in Sicilian.
2019 - 60% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 10% Cinsault, 5% Counoise from 2 parcels on sandy soils totalling 2ha in Sabran. Vines were planted in the 1970s & 80s. Fermented and aged separately in stainless steel for 8 months, bottled unfined, unfiltered. Ciaüla translates to Crow in Sicilian, a reference to a character in one of Luigi Pirandello’s stories.
Tasting Note: 2018 - Aromas of fresh red fruits-cherry & strawberry with spice, flowers on the nose, juicy and with bright red fruit on the palate, good acidity, fine tannin, rounded texture, and a lovely fruity finish.
2019 - Aromas of cherry, plum, raspberry with violets, licorice, pepper spice, and herbs on the nose. Juicy and approachable on the palate, bright red & black fruit with an earthy/spicy undertone, good acidity, moderate tannins, and slightly warm with good length on the drying finish.
