Saumur Rouge Les Arboises

Guiberteau’s top cuvee that elicits Burgundy. Cabernet Franc from Les Arboises monopole, located on the Brézé hill. The parcel is south facing with soils of sand and silt over limestone bedrock. Vines were planted in 1957. Destemmed fruit, with indigenous fermentation in concrete, aged 18 months in new and 1-3 year barrels. This is aged for longer both in barrel and bottle to refine the angular tannins due to the terroir.

Tasting Note: Aromas of blackcurrant, plum, cherry, and orange peel, with hints of cocoa, forest floor, bell pepper, and tea spice on the nose. Full and broad on the palate, layered and complex with notes of berry fruit, spice and mineral, fresh acidity, slight grip on the fine tannins, and good length on a savoury finish. Needs some time in the cellar to fully reach its potential.
