Grüner Veltliner Ried Gottschelle

A single vineyard Grüner Veltliner from Reid Gottschelle, a classified 1ötw Erste Lage in Fruth bei Göttweig. The vineyard is at the foot of the Göttweiger Berg on a plateau of old Danube terraces. The soils are primarily of sandy, loamy silt, and calcareous loess with some layers of gravel also found. Vines average 25 years. Spontaneous ferment with natural yeast in very large old wooden oak with at least 6 months of lees contact before bottling.

The name is derived from the word Goetschen, meaning “sharp ledges on the ridge”, where there is a steep cliff on one side of the vineyard leading to the road below.

Tasting Note: Aromas of yellow apple, lemon, and grapefruit with hints of sage, white peppercorn, stone mineral, and sea air on the nose. Medium weight with very good intensity and concentration of fruit, vibrant acidity, rounded texture, and a long finish with a salty & spicy note.
