Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese
Riesling from a 5ha parcel within the Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard. Soils are deep, stony with weathered grey slate on a slope very steep (up to 70% gradient). The vineyard faces an optimal south/southwest exposure. The famous sundial (sonnenuhr = sundial) was built in this vineyard by an ancestor of the Prum family in 1842. Wines generally have good structure with ripe stone fruit notes, fine mineral, great depth and length.
Tasting Note: 2003 - Golden in appearance with aromas of very ripe fruit: apricot, pineapple, pear with blossom, honeycomb, candied ginger, marmalade, brown spices on the nose. Deep, very complex with good richness on the palate, tropical and very ripe fruit core, fresh acidity balances the sweetness, concentrated, great length on the honeyed finish. Medium sweet/sweet.
2018 - Aromas of cantaloupe melon, apricot, ripe pear with hints of flower, honey, wet stone on the nose. Round and ripe on the palate with a core of tropical fruit & flowers, bright acidity, balanced sweetness, great intensity and depth, layered and long on the finish. Medium dry/medium-sweet.
