Pinot Noir Assmannshausen Höllenberg GG

Pinot Noir from a parcel within the Grosse Lage (grand cru) of Assmannshauser Höllenberg. A famous yet challenging terroir, where the slopes are very steep (40-60%.) Vines average 80 years, with some still ungrafted. Soils are porous and consist of mainly slate and quartzite. Grapes are hand harvested and sorted to select the best berries, matured in barrel (2/3 new, 1/3 1year old) for roughly 22 months. A wine crafted to age.

Tasting Note: Aromas of cassis, blackberry, and red cherry with hints of sage, toasty oak, slate mineral, and cocoa on the nose. Rich and rounded on the palate with a core of red/black fruit and spice, fresh acidity, fine but youthful tannin, silky texture, great mineral depth, ethereal, amazing length on the berried finish.
