Champagne Geoffroy

Aÿ, Vallée De La Marne

Champagne Geoffroy has roots that date all the way to the 17th century. Originally based in the village of Cumières, they’ve since relocated and are based in heart of the village of Aÿ. Jean-Baptiste Geoffroy joined his father back in the 1980s, now oversees the operations and continues the long family tradition. With 5 daughters, one thinks it is safe to assume the estate’s rich history will continue. Vineyards total 14ha mainly in the 1er Cru village Cumières, where the focus is to preserve and enhance the life of the soil for future generations. Plantings are Pinot Noir dominant (42%), supplemented by Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. Intervention is minimal with avoidance of the use of chemicals, employs cover crops, and encourages predatory insects to combat vine pests. In the cellar, Jean Baptiste is armed with traditional Coquard press, enamelled vats, oak barrels, in the new gravity-fed winery. Parcels are vinified separately, prefer natural yeasts, and malolactic fermentation is generally avoided. Jean Baptiste seeks to maintain the spirit of respect, patience, details, and purity of the grape and terroir and his wines are gorgeous- racy, mineral, generous and so alive!
