Sat La Botera
Batea, Terra Alta, Catalonia
wanted to separate from the large cooperatives, got together to create Sat La Botera in the village of Batea. With great passion and determination, the families invested in a winery and improved their vineyards, all to craft wines with their very own imprint in each bottling. The vineyards span over 180ha in the Terra Alta DO. Their terroir includes grapes growing at high altitudes (350-550m). A Mediterranean climate: generally dry with little rain and plenty of sun, and the Cierzo & Ábrego winds cool the hotter days. The trademark soil of the area is Panal soil, which consists of chalk and sand soils that come from fossil dunes and has perfect drainage. The second generation now runs most of the operations, where the focus is towards a more natural approach to production and to continue to improve sustainability. With a recent addition in 2017 of a new four-storey facility, the commitment for quality that started 30 years will most definitely continue for years to come.
