Recaredo

Sant Sadurni d’Anoia, Penedès, Catalonia

For almost a century, Recaredo had always maintained a commitment to producing quality sparkling wine that is deeply traditional, handcrafted, and reflects the climate and land of Alt Penedès as honestly as possible. Founded in 1924, Recaredo is located west of Barcelona in Sant Sadurni d’Anoia, with some sections in the cellar existing in their original form over 80 years old. The third generation, Ton Mata, manages this estate and the 65ha in the calcareous terroir of the Bitlles Valley. Vineyards are planted mainly with Xarel-lo, Macabeu, Parellada, and others. Vines range from 10 – 80 years in age. A strict organic viticulture regime is followed and is, and one of the first, certified biodynamic producers in Penedès. Methods in the cellar are detail-oriented, with the Xarel-lo grape used in high proportions and the use of old oak barrels for ferments and aging. The second fermentation and lees aging happens in bottles with natural cork stoppers, zero dosage, only native yeast use, manual disgorging without freezing, vintage dating, and the list goes on. All of the wines are deeply expressive, finely etched and startlingly complex.

In 2019, Recaredo and eight more family wineries had cut ties with the Cava DO to form their own EU-recognized body; Corpinnat and labels will reflect this moving forward.
