Condrieu Chery
Viognier from a 2.8ha parcel in the unofficial grand cru of Condrieu, Coteau de Chéry. Vines average 50+ years (some 80 years). Soils are of decomposed granite rich in quartz and mica. Fermentation in 1/3 stainless steel and 2/3 barrel with 25% new oak, aged on lees for 1yr in barrique, then a further 3 months in stainless steel before bottling.
Tasting Note: 2016 - Aromas of apricot, pear, lemon with anise, smoky mineral on the nose. Rich and juicy with fresh pear & Meyer lemon with anise & saffron spice, lively acidity, layered & complex, silky texture, great energy on the long finish with notes of chalk mineral.
2017 - Pronounced aromas of melon, apricot, peach nectar with flower, ginger spice. Powerful and dense with vivid citrus & pitted fruit, full but not heavy, vibrant acidity, tremendous mineral finish with a note of lemon curd lingering on the end.
2018 - Aromas of passionfruit, white peach, tangerine, white currant with hints of jasmine, tarragon, and blossom on the nose. Full and rich on the palate with ripe orchard and pitted fruit, fresh acidity, amazing balance of power and finesse, and long length on a mineral-laced finish.
