Gevrey-Chambertin

2017 - Warm spring with frost mostly avoided. Hot/warm weather for spring and summer leading to an early harvest. Picking dates are essential due to the risk of rain. A plentiful harvest.

From 1ha of vines on 2 plots: La Justice (sand & limestone=structure) on the Brochon side and La Seuvrées (more clay=elegance) which is next to the Grand Cru Charmes Chambertin. Vines average 40+ years of age. Indigenous yeast ferment, 14-18 months in oak (15% new).

Tasting Note: 2017 - Red fruits of cranberry, plum, and raspberry along with herbal mint and fennel aromas on the nose. The palate is more mineral with supple tannin and a peppery finish.

2019 - Aromas of blackberry, black cherry, and bilberry with notes of earth, allspice, and violets on the nose. Balanced and pure on the palate, good acidity, supple tannin, harmonious and good length on the finish. Currently very youthful and will need some cellaring.

2020 - “The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a lovely, very pure and well-defined nose, the oak here beautifully integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with edgy tannins, lightly peppered with a brisk, graphite-tinged finish. This is exactly what I want from a Gevrey Village” 89-91pts.
