Domaine Clos Marie
Lauret
From humble beginnings in the 1990s, Domaine Clos Marie has established itself as a quality grower in the Languedoc, with the careful and diligent work in the vineyards and cellar by the hands of Christophe Peyrus and partner Françoise Julien. Having inherited vine parcels from Marie Julien (Françoise’s grandmother), who gives her name to the Domaine, the soils are of clay and chalky limestone. They are on steep and terraced vineyards on the backside of Montagne de l’Hortus. The transition to producing quality wines included replanting all the vineyards to increase density. Moreover, they perform massale planting of several native varieties, have regular ploughing to force roots deep down into the limestone bedrock, and have banned herbicides/pesticides. The 22ha domaine has been biodynamic since 2000. In cellar fermentation is generally with whole clusters in large, neutral barrels and concrete vats, racking very little, giving a longer maturation and have minimal sulphur use (only once at bottling). Through the unwavering hard work of Christophe and Françoise, the wines are a top representation of the region Pic Saint-Loup and have great finesse, fabulous purity and firm age-worthy profiles.
