With origins dating back to the late 1940s, Cyprien Arlaud took the reins in 1997. Intense care and attention are maintained in the vineyards by converting the entire 15ha to organics in 2004, and now fully converted to biodynamics (certified in 2014). Horses are preferred over tractors to plough the vineyards to keep soils healthy and alive as, “it’s hard to get good grapes from vines planted on a cement highway.” Described as, “modern classic,” elegance and non-interventionist approach is the focus in the cellar with lower levels of extraction, less use of new oak (0% for Bourgogne, 15-30% for the rest of lineup), and partial use of whole clusters for top cuvées. Immensely talented, Domaine Arlaud is no question, a top grower in Burgundy!
