Domaine Jean-Claude Ramonet
Chassagne-Montrachet
Jean Claude Ramonet’s family roots begin in 1920 where Pierre Ramonet, Jean Claude’s grandfather, with little more than the shirt on his back, arrived in Burgundy and started to buy and vinify grapes. The Domaine is slowly accumulating parcels in Chassagne Montrachet, the first being within Ruchottes 1er cru, and eventually some Montrachet Grand Cru. The family tradition continues now with 17ha of vineyards farmed organically. Vines average 60 years of age with their oldest 80+ years (Montrachet). In the cellar, fermentations occur in steel vats then to oak barrels, aging 12-15 months with new oak varying with each cuvée (grand cru’s 50-75%), no battonage but extended lees aging instead. Famous for their whites, but reds also bear the Ramonet signature of “explosive concentration and breadth within a powerful structure.”
