Domaine André Perret

Verlieu-Chavanay

André Perret is truly one of the greats of Condrieu, a title earned in a short time with a lot of dedication. Studying biology and working as a researcher, André dreamed of working outdoors. With a family history of winegrowers in Chassagne, the decision was natural.  After completing a viticulture & enology course, he started with a few rows of vines belonging to his uncle in 1983 in Chavanay — a time where there were only 2 other growers and mostly orchards in the area. Instrumental in establishing programs for young agriculturalists to plant vineyards, André was passionate about the potential in the terroir and became a pioneer in reviving the industry in Chavagny. Now, Domaine André Perret has grown to 13ha of vineyards on steep terroir and vineyards mostly terraced. The approach to wine growing is fairly traditional. The soils are worked with respect for the terroir and they avoid the use of chemical products, yields are kept low, and new oak use is kept to a minimum. The goal is to make fresh, structured wines without too much wood and his wines are definitely superb; they are intense, classy, complex and characterful.
