Domaine Comte Armand
Pommard
Clos des Epeneaux, a magnificent parcel of 5ha in Pommard, has been the heritage of the family of Count Armand since 1828 and still remains so. The current Comte Armand is a lawyer living in Paris but is very supportive of those looking after the Domaine. The Domaine is currently led by winemaker Paul Zinetti since 2016. Top winemakers in the past (Pascal Marchand, Benjamin Leroux) have built the foundations and Paul is committed more than ever to craft quality, long-lasting wines that are true expressions of terroir. Vineyard holdings total 9ha spanning into Pommard, Volnay, and Auxey-Duresses, all farmed biodynamic. Parcels are further divided according to soil types with some horse ploughing incorporated in some vineyards. In the winery, usually, less than 10% of the whole cluster is preferred but is vintage dependant, a max of 30% new oak (only for the top cuvée), and aging in oak generally ranges 18-24 months. Paul and his team’s attention and care in the vineyards is to ensure “I am making my wines according to the terroir, I don’t want to cheat,” and the wines always have a great sense of purity.
