Domaine Guiberteau

Saint-Just-sur-Dive, Saumur

Nady Foucault, Thierry Germain, Benjamin Dagueneau; the inspiration, the friendship, and mentorship from these great growers and the sheer quality of some brilliant terroir are a big part of Romain Guiberteau and his wines from Domaine Guiberteau. Established in 1934 and located just south of Saumur in Saint-Just-sur-Dive, Romain is a 3rd generation winegrower cultivating only 2 grapes: Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc. There are over 17ha in Saumur, including 7ha in the de facto grand cru site, Brézé. The vineyards are certified organic with the use of bio applications, synthetic products are prohibited and harvests are done by hand. In the cellar, a mix of concrete, steel tanks, large wooden vats, and barriques are used as the vintage requires. Indigenous yeasts are preferred with no other additions and very minimal sulphur is used. Romain’s intense passion and drive are found in each of his bottles, from pure, floral, crunchy red berry/earthy reds, to fresh pithy grapefruit, blossom, chalky and thrillingly textured taut whites.
